Redmond man sentenced to 20 months in prison for killing Kirkland bicyclist

A Redmond man was sentenced on Sept. 9 to 20 months of jail time after he pleaded guilty to killing a Kirkland bicyclist in 2011.

A Redmond man was sentenced on Sept. 9 to 20 months of jail time after he pleaded guilty to killing a Kirkland bicyclist in 2011.

Convicted of vehicular homicide and reckless endangerment, Nathan Jeremie Godwin, 28, pleaded guilty on Aug. 5 to drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana before driving a friend home while speeding, which caused him to hit and kill Kirkland resident Bradley J. Nakatani, 36.

Godwin initially pleaded not guilty to the charges on Dec. 22, 2011.

King County Superior Court Judge Kimberly D. Prochnau ordered Godwin to pay $2,375 in fines and restitution and is not to contact Nakatani’s family for life. Godwin is expected to serve 18 months of community custody after his prison sentence.

After prison, Godwin cannot consume alcohol, non-prescribed controlled substances, including marijuana, he must attend a DUI victim’s impact panel and obtain an alcohol/substance abuse evaluation within 30 days of his release.

He must also drive with an ignition interlock device set at 0.02 and cannot enter any business where alcohol or marijuana is the primary commodity for sale.
