Kirkland was hit hard by the snow storm that rolled through the area last week. Many places in Kirkland reached a total of 10 inches of accumulation. The snow, ice and wind caused damage to trees and homes and resulted in many road closures and event cancelations.
The biggest cancelation came from the Lake Washington School District, which closed its doors to all Kirkland public schools for three days, Jan. 18-20. The district has not announced when or how the days will be made up. Check back or the district website for updates.
The district has announced that due to the snow days, the end of semester for junior high and high schools has been changed from Jan. 27 to Feb. 3.
Along with the school closure, many LWSD events were canceled or rescheduled.
The LWSD School Board meeting and work session, originally scheduled for Jan. 23, has been rescheduled for Jan. 30.
The mandatory information meeting for Northstar Middle School has been rescheduled for 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 26 in the BEST High School gymnasium.

A new date for the Finn Hill Middle School open house, scheduled for last Thursday, has not been chosen.
Last Thursday’s community reception hosted by the City of Kirkland and Lake Washington School District to meet Dr. Traci Pierce, candidate for superintendent, was also cancelled and no make-up date has been released.
Most city and neighborhood association meetings were cancelled last Wednesday, including the Evergreen Hill, Highlands and Market neighborhood meetings. Those associations will conduct their next regularly scheduled meetings.
The Finn Hill fire station community workshop and the Library Board meeting will be rescheduled for sometime in February.
The “Martin Luther King Day of Service” event will take place at 9 a.m. on Saturday at Cotton Hill Park, located at 110th Ave N.E. and N.E. 98th St.
All equipment, snacks and water will be provided. Participants are encouraged to bring waterproof boots and dress for the weather.
