Sailboat sinks in Lake Washington off the shores of Kirkland

A small sailboat was damaged and overturned just off Marina Park in Kirkland Sunday night, according to the Kirkland Fire Department.

A small sailboat was damaged and overturned just off Marina Park in Kirkland Sunday night, according to the Kirkland Fire Department.

After receiving a 911 call, emergency personnel immediately deployed rescue swimmers and rescue boats Marine 21 and Marine 22, returning an occupant to the shore.

The sailor, an adult male, was “slightly cold, but ok,” according to the King County Sheriff’s Office Twitter account.

The man was evaluated for injuries and released at the scene.

It is unknown what caused the boat to sink.

The Mercer Island Police Department and King County Marine assisted in bringing the damaged boat to shore.
