SCHOOL BRIEF Foundation awards $28,700 to LWSD

The fastest-growing careers in the world are jobs requiring science skills. In response to this growing need, the Lake Washington School District has a vision for state-of-the-art science education. Because of the generosity of donors who supported last year’s “Calling for Kids” campaign, the Lake Washington Schools Foundation was able to award $28,700 to the district to purchase Vernier LabQuests and Probeware for all of the district’s high schools.

“To ensure that all kids are future ready, we know that state-of-the-art science education will be required for all students. We are committed to this vision and we are thankful to the Lake Washington Schools Foundation and the larger community for helping us make it possible,” said Dr. Chip Kimball, superintendent.

Vernier’s innovative science lab technology enables students to explore and investigate scientific inquiry in biology, chemistry, physics, and physical science that they currently only read about, and to acquire skills and aptitudes they will need to be future ready.

The Vernier technology is only a start of the many opportunities that exist in developing a state-of-the art science education throughout the district.

Building on last year’s success, the Foundation will host its second “Calling for Kids” campaign February 23-26 to raise money for additional opportunities for students to develop core science skills as they prepare for careers in science, technology, engineering or whatever filed they choose.
