Claire Pepple, a freshmen at Northshore Junior High in Bothell, participated in the Senate Page Program recently during the fourth week of the 2012 session. Pepple was sponsored by Sen. Andy Hill, R-Redmond, of Kirkland’s 45th District.
The program is an opportunity for Washington students to get firsthand experience working in the Legislature. Pages get a variety of experiences in their week-long stay in Olympia, including running errands, delivering mail, and paging in the Senate Chamber. Pages are also taught about parliamentary procedure and the legislative process.
Pepple was one of 15 students chosen to participate.
“There aren’t too many states that have an equivalent to our page program. It offers a unique opportunity to learn about state government,” said Hill. “I’m glad Claire was able to take advantage of it.”
“It’s exciting to see the different college interns working here,” said Pepple. “It’s good to know that we can come back when we’re in college and learn even more.”
Pepple plays slow pitch softball for the Northshore Girls Slowpitch Softball Association and is active at her local YMCA. She enjoys reading, traveling, and volunteering. Pepple is the daughter of Randy and Sidney Pepple of Woodinville.
