The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter Police Blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 800 per week.
Between Aug. 19-26, the Kirkland Police Department reported 438 traffic violations (two DUIs), 17 traffic accidents, 30 noise complaints, 10 thefts, 9 domestic violence calls, 31 alarm calls, seven motor vehicle prowls, seven motor vehicle thefts, nine burglaries, 20 disturbances, eight cases of fraud, seven harassment calls, 10 malicious mischief cases, two assaults and six animal control calls. At least 32 people were arrested.
Aug. 26
Shoplifter: 6:25 a.m., 12500 block of Northeast 85th St. Safeway personnel reported a shoplifter who stole a case of Miller Light beer. The shoplifter was described as a white male, approximately 25 years of age.
Aug. 25
Traffic accident: 4:12 p.m., Northeast 132nd Street. A pedestrian was crossing the roadway in a marked crosswalk and was struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle, which was traveling at 25-30 miles per hour, said she did not see the minor because of the bright sunshine. The minor said he yelled and waived to get the driver’s attention, but it was too late. His head struck the windshield and he rode on the hood a short distance before falling off when the vehicle stopped. The boy was transported to Harborview Medical Center and treated for unknown injuries. The woman’s car was impounded for inspection.
Assault: 7:52 p.m., 12500 block of 102nd Way N.E. A 26-year-old Kirkland man got upset when a 35-year-old Kirkland man sent him a photo of the 26-year-old’s girlfriend posed with the older man, cheek to cheek. The younger man’s girlfriend called the police and he admitted that he slapped his girlfriend. He was arrested for fourth degree assault.
Drug possession: 9:48 p.m., 9700 block of Northeast Juanita Drive. Two 17-year-old males were located in Michael’s parking lot in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Hit and run: 1:15 a.m., 1200 block of 124th Ave. N.E. The victim witnessed a vehicle back into his parked truck. The vehicle left without stopping. The victim ran after the suspect vehicle and confronted the 37-year-old Kirkland woman driving the vehicle. She denied the collision and left the area. Police contacted the woman at her address and she was arrested. She will be cited through an investigation.
Assist: 12:11 p.m., 500 block of Fifth Avenue West. A landlord said she evicted her tenant after not paying rent for 10 months. The tenant damaged some items while living there and took a washer and dryer when he left. The landlord was instructed to pursue the matter civilly.
Aug. 22
DUI: 2:10 a.m., 100 block of 10th Ave. A 30-year-old Kirkland woman hit a parked car with her vehicle after she had some drinks at the Time Out bar. Upon arrival, the responding officer noticed the woman’s eyes were bloodshot and there was an obvious odor of intoxicants on her breath. The woman said she was “embarrassed” and said she had two shots and a beer before driving home. She was cited for DUI.
Domestic violence: A 46-year-old Kirkland man was arrested for fourth degree domestic violence after he assaulted his brother-in-law. The victim initially refused to cooperate, but then allowed photos to be taken of his injuries. The suspect was booked into the Kirkland Jail.
Aug. 20
DUI: 1 a.m., 11000 block of Kirkland Way. A 26-year-old Seattle man was stopped for equipment violations and he smelled of liquor. He was arrested for DUI, with a .110 blood-alcohol level.
Burglary: Unknown time, 12200 block of Northeast 124th St. A man reported that someone burglarized his storage unit sometime within the last three weeks. Several thousand dollars worth of furniture was take. There is no suspect at this time.
Aug. 19
Malicious mischief: 1:38 a.m., 116 Lake Street. After leaving the Lake Street Bar, the victim drove down a nearby alley and he was blocked by seven subjects. As the victim tried to move, they began throwing items at his vehicle and started striking him. The man said he does not know any of the subjects and had not had any problems with anyone on this date.
Motor vehicle prowl: 9:50 p.m., 10600 block of N.E. 132nd St. Someone stole $150 in cash from the center console of an unlocked vehicle.
