The following is a release from the city of Kirkland:

Sound Transit today released a high level summary of its draft plan for Sound Transit 3 (ST3), the next expansion of the regional transit system, which will likely go before voters in November 2016. The plan entails projects in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties, including the following projects that impact the Kirkland area:

• Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) on I-405 from Lynnwood to Burien

• A new bus station on I-405 at Northeast 85th Street

• Business Access Transit (BAT) lanes extending toward Downtown Kirkland from the station on I-405 at Northeast 85th Street.

• Parking at Kingsgate

• High Capacity Transit (HCT) Environmental Study to examine HCT options from Bothell to Bellevue via Kirkland

The draft plan does not include funding for the construction of electric bus rapid transit or light rail on the Cross Kirkland Corridor.

Sound Transit staff indicated that detailed project information will be made available from its web site athttp://soundtransit3.org by Tuesday, March 29, 2016. City of Kirkland staff will be reviewing the project information over the coming weeks. The Kirkland City Council will receive and update and discuss the draft plan at its regular meeting on April 5.

Comments on the ST3 draft plan will be accepted by Sound Transit before a final plan is released in June. Sound Transit will initiate a 30-day public input process in April that include an on-line survey and public meetings.
