SR 520 bridge to undergo maintenance, monthly testing early Thursday morning

Drivers who plan to use the State Route 520 floating bridge to cross Lake Washington may encounter delays early Thursday morning.

The following is a release from the Washington State Department of Transportation:

Drivers who plan to use the State Route 520 floating bridge to cross Lake Washington may encounter delays early Thursday morning.

The left lane in each direction will be closed from 12:30 to 2:30 a.m. Jan. 8, to finish repairs to a wheel on one of the barriers that blocks traffic before a drawspan opening. Once complete, the bridge will temporarily close to drivers for up to 30 minutes at a time from 2:30 to 5 a.m., while Washington State Department of Transportation bridge maintenance crews open and close the drawspan for testing. The monthly work is to ensure the drawspan operates properly.

Electronic message signs on highways leading to the bridge will advise drivers of the delays. Drivers can choose an alternate route to cross or go around Lake Washington, such as Interstates 90 and 405 or State Route 522. Traffic conditions on the bridge can be monitored on our Seattle traffic page.
