SR 520 floating bridge closures early Thursday morning, overnight Friday

Drivers who plan to use the State Route 520 floating bridge to cross Lake Washington may encounter delays up to 30 minutes early Thursday morning.

The following is a release from the Washington State Department of Transportation:

Drivers who plan to use the State Route 520 floating bridge to cross Lake Washington may encounter delays up to 30 minutes early Thursday morning. Drivers should also plan ahead for a full bridge closure from 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Saturday.

The bridge will temporarily close to drivers for up to 30 minutes at a time from 2:30 to 5 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, while Washington State Department of Transportation bridge maintenance crews open and close the drawspan for testing. The monthly maintenance work is to ensure the drawspan operates properly.

All lanes and ramps of SR 520 between Montlake Boulevard and 92nd Avenue Northeast will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, to 5 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13. On Saturday morning, drivers will see newly unveiled toll rate signs near 84th Avenue Northeast. WSDOT needs to relocate the toll collection point to prepare to shift traffic to the new bridge. Although drivers will continue to see flashing lights at both locations, they will not be tolled twice. Once the bridge is in its final lane configuration, the toll equipment will move to its permanent location just east of the Evergreen Point lid.

Electronic message signs on highways leading to the bridge will advise drivers of the delays. Drivers can choose an alternate route to cross or go around Lake Washington, such as Interstates 90 and 405 or State Route 522. Traffic conditions on the bridge can be monitored on our Seattle traffic page.
