The following street closures will continue to affect some main routes around Kirkland.
Kirkland Way and Kirkland Avenue
Sections of Kirkland Way and Kirkland Avenue remain closed this week for an upgrade to the downtown water delivery system. Kirkland Way will remain closed between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. until mid-October. Kirkland Avenue will open periodically during that time.
The affected street sections will be open to normal traffic between 5 p.m. and 7 a.m. Emergency vehicles, local residents, business workers and customers will continue to have access at all times.
Northeast 85th Street
The northern-most westbound lane of Northeast 85th Street will close between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 24. The closure will be between 114th Avenue Northeast and 6th Street and will allow Kirkland’s streets division to repair and repave damaged pavement.
Northeast 52nd Street
Kirkland’s Northeast 52nd Street will close daily, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Aug. 28 through Sept. 1. The contractor will ensure access to emergency vehicles. All other traffic will follow the established detour. The street will open to normal access after work hours.
This project will create a continuous sidewalk, as well as a 12-foot, westbound shared lane for cycling and driving. The project will also add an eastbound bicycle lane on the street’s south side, while the street’s north side will receive a nine-foot wall that will prevent the north slope from eroding.
First Street
First Street remains closed while contractors upgrade the sewer main beneath the street. The one- and two-block closures between Seventh and Ninth avenues will continue until work completes in late November.
