The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter police blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 1,000 per week.
Between Aug. 4-10, there were 261 traffic incidents, 28 traffic accidents, one DUI, 23 general traffic incidents, 36 alarm calls, 14 abandoned vehicles, four burglaries, 12 incidents of fraud, 15 civil incidents, five cases of harassment, 20 thefts, 12 vehicle prowls, six vehicle thefts, 11 warrants served, 23 noise complaints, three animal calls, 12 incidents of domestic violence, one fireworks complaint, 20 disturbances, one sex offense, nine hit and runs and 23 incidents involving at least one arrest.
Aug. 4
Obstructing: 7:05 a.m., 11200 block of NE 124th Street; A 33-year-old Woodinville woman refused to follow verbal commands after QFC management requested she be trespassed. Officers later learned that she had a warrant for her arrest. She actively resisted once officers went hands-on in an attempt to arrest her on the warrant, and was arrested on one count of making false or misleading statements to a public servant, one county of resisting arrest and one count of obstructing a law enforcement officer.
Aug. 5
Minor, Liquor violation: 1:46 a.m., 7700 block of NE 140th Street; A 20-year-old man was arrested for MIP after becoming intoxicated at a party, starting a fight and then posturing up at responding officers. He was later restrained after continuing to intentionally harm himself by smashing his forehead into the patrol vehicle’s plastic divider continually.
Theft: 3:09 p.m., 12400 block of Totem Lake Blvd; Two Tacoma women, age 23 and 29, shoplifted $122.30 worth of items from the Totem Lake RiteAid. They realized they didn’t have enough money to cover the cost of the items, so they left without paying for any of them.
Aug. 6
Theft: 7:03 a.m., 14400 block of 124th Avenue; Officers responded to report of a suspicious man possibly attempting to shoplift Seahawks gear at Kingsgate Safeway. Officers contacted a 28-year-old man and advised him he needed to purchase his goods. The man then used a credit card belonging to a 32-year-old Snohomish woman to pay for the goods. The man didn’t have authorization to possess or use the card, and was arrested on one count of possession of stolen property and one count of theft, both in the third degree.
7:50 a.m., 10100 block of NE 35th Lane; A 19-year-old man broke through the perimeter fence around Brighton Place Condos in two places and wandered through the back decks of two residents. He then broke through the fence into the back yard of a separate residence where he was confronted by the homeowner and backed out. The man claimed to be looking for his friend, and was arrested on two counts of malicious mischief and one count of criminal trespass.
Aug. 8
Assault: 12:40 p.m., 10200 block of NE 132nd Street; A 43-year-old Seattle patient at Fairfax Hospital assaulted a 70-year-old Bothell patient, causing a hematoma to the victim’s forehead, numerous scratches and a laceration to his upper lip. The Seattle man was suicidal, according to the police report, and felt it would be easier to kill himself in jail rather than at Fairfax, so he assaulted the Bothell man in order to get arrested. The Seattle man was transported to and booked at Kirkland PD jail, then transported to SCORE.
Aug. 9
Domestic: 5:18 a.m., 12600 block of NE 132nd Street; A juvenile male was arrested for Assault in the 4th Degree, Domestic Violence, after he got into a physical altercation with another juvenile, resulting in pain and slight bleeding. The first juvenile was highly combative with police and corrections staff at King County Youth Corrections. He was assisted to the ground by officers with care and diligence.
Domestic: 6:36 a.m., 10900 block of 115th Ct. NE; A 48-year-old woman assaulted her 66-year-old mother when she learned her mother was contacting mental health services. The woman pulled her mother’s hair very hard, causing her pain. Due to her mental state, the woman was transported to SCORE.
