Discovery House, a nonprofit transitional housing program for homeless women and their children on the Eastside, would like Seahawks fans who are considering buying a ticket to this week’s game against Dallas to consider doing it for a good cause – and a tax deduction.
“Discovery House helps women with a hand-up by providing not just housing, but support and guidance to change the cycle of despair,” said Joy Roof, executive director of the program.
The organization had the opportunity to purchase tickets a face value through the Seahawks club and now they want to sell them at the going rate of $250, or ideally above. The kicker is that because the group purchased the tickets for much less, most of your ticket price would be tax deductible to the extent the law allows. There are four tickets together in the 300 level, Roof says it’s hard to find four tickets together this close to the game.
Discovery House is a 501(c)3 organization. Many of the women they help are fleeing domestic abuse.
“October is National Domestic Violence Awareness month, and somehow with all the publicity around football players and domestic abuse, this seems like a fitting way to raise awareness and needed funds” Roof said.
It costs Discovery House more than $1,000 a month to house, feed and support a family in their program. When a woman graduates, she is financially literate, has necessary parenting skills and is gainfully employed.
“All of this helps ensure that not only she will be a productive member of society, but so will her children,” Roof said.
This is a must-see game with the champion Seahawks facing Dallas Cowboys who are coming off a four-game winning streak and favored by 3 points. The last time Seahawks and Dallas faced off was two years ago and Seattle won 27-17.
“We need our 12’s to be there in force!” Roof said.
