Kirkland Dog Off-Leash Group (KDOG) is seeking the community’s support in PetSafe’s national dog park contest, Bark for Your Park. PetSafe will give one lucky community $100,000 to build a park and KDOG has nominated Kirkland for the award.

The first round of the contest runs through June 1. PetSafe will then review the information provided by community members to gauge community enthusiasm, availability of land and other resources and overall impact to the city. Based on that criteria, PetSafe will select 15 finalist cities on July 13.
Once the finalist cities have been selected, there will be three weeks of public voting through Aug. 3. Popular vote will decide the winner.
About KDOG
KDOG, which has more than 250 members, was formed by Kirkland citizens in in 2007 to create a safe legal dog park for the city. After citizens requested a dog park for more than 11 years, the Kirkland Council authorized KDOG to build a public dog park on city property last November.
According to KDOG, the park must be privately funded, including annual operating expenses. KDOG volunteers have worked tirelessly since 2008 with the City of Kirkland and Parks Department to establish KDOG as a community partner and a reliable, sustaining stewardship group.
KDOG raised more than $15,000 towards the dog park, funding the necessary environmental reviews. While the group has a designated park site, park plan, budget, and park education committee in place, the organization needs help to build and operate the park.
