Unregistered voters hoping to cast a ballot this November can use the Internet to beat the Oct. 4 registration deadline.

With the requirement of registering 30 days before the vote, the Secretary of State’s office maintains an online registration process at their Web site, www.secstate.wa.gov in the hopes that as many voters as possible will participate. Earlier this year, Secretary of State Sam Reed predicted over 80 percent of eligible voters statewide would take part in the election.

To register online, visitors to the county elections Website must be at least 18 years old by Nov. 4, a U.S. citizen and have either a valid Washington State driver’s license or state identification (ID) card. All other residents with alternate forms of ID can fill out a paper registration form and mail it by October 4th. Citizens are ineligible to vote if they have not had their rights restored after a felony conviction of if a judge decides they are mentally incompetent.

Registrations are available in English, Spanish, & Chinese, Cambodian, Laotian, Vietnamese, Korean and Russian languages. After the 30-day deadline passes, unregistered voters can still sign up in time for the election by visiting the King County Elections Office in person, no later than Oct. 20. Locally, the Eastside Empowerment Group will be helping eligible potential voters at Crossroads Mall Saturday Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. For information, contact Mary at 425-881-2349.
