Responding to wildfires devastating portions of Washington state in recent days, Walgreens began accepting cash donations from customers looking for ways to support those whose lives or property were disrupted.
Walgreens stores are accepting check-out counter donations at locations throughout Washington.
Starting Sunday, store employees began inviting customers to make point-of-purchase cash donations in amounts of $1, $5 and $10 with the donations going to the American Red Cross to help people affected by the Western Wildfires.
The Red Cross is providing shelter and has provided more than 3,200 meals and snacks to those affected by the fires. The organization is also providing health and mental health services and is distributing trash bags, gloves and masks to people throughout the area.
Local reports describe the fire as the worst in the state’s history.
“Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Washington state who are suffering such devastating losses,” said Sue Bandurraga, Walgreens vice president of operations and community management for the Pacific Northwest. “The impact on homes, families, businesses and the natural resources of the area will be felt for a long time to come.”
