The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter Police Blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 800 per week.
Between Feb. 24 to March 2, the Kirkland Police Department reported 336 traffic violations (four DUI’s), 22 alarm calls, 12 car accidents, 10 noise complaints, 15 thefts, three car prowls, seven domestic violence calls, five acts of fraud, 11 calls of a disturbance, two assaults, eight calls for animal control, four calls for illegal substances and six calls of harassment. At least 32 people were arrested.
March 2
Car prowl: 1 a.m., 10400 block of N.E. 109th Street. A Kirkland man had his vehicle broken into during the night and his empty laptop bag was stolen. An unknown subject returned the bag to the front porch later in the morning. The victim was in the shower and didn’t get to the door to talk to the person who returned the bag and tried ringing the door bell. It appeared that a spark plug was used to break the window of the car to gain entrance.
March 1
Theft: 11:55 a.m., 255 Central Way. A 23-year-old Sedro Woolley man was arrested and booked for third degree theft after stealing a Foster’s beer from The Market on Central.
Feb. 28
Assist: 6:32 p.m., 1200 block of Market Street. A property manager served a tenant with an eviction notice and while he was walking away the tenant yelled at the man and followed him to his apartment threatening that her rich parents would sue him for harassment. The woman then contacted neighbors to find out which neighbor complained and was the reason for the eviction. No crime occurred and the woman left the apartment complex prior to police arrival.
Feb. 27
Theft: 4:35 a.m., 12519 N.E. 85th Street. A 24-year-old Monroe female was arrested for theft after being caught on video taking money from a till at Safeway.
Illegal substance: 11:23 a.m., 300 Central Way. While conducting a foot patrol in Peter Kirk Park an officer noticed a 20-year-old Sammamish man acting suspiciously. Upon contact the man smelled of marijuana and was found to have drug paraphernalia.
Feb. 25
Warrant arrest: 7:56 p.m., 123 Fifth Ave. A 24-year-old Seattle man was arrested on a Medina warrant for driving with a suspended license.
Traffic offense: 3:11 p.m., 12400 N.E. 116th Street. A 46-year-old Seattle man was stopped on a traffic infraction and found to be driving with a suspended license and had a warrant for hit and run. The man was arrested and handed over to the King County Sheriff’s Department.
Feb. 24
Theft: 6:37 a.m., 6625 132nd Ave. N.E. A 36-year-old woman was arrested at the Bridle Trails Red Apple for third degree theft after she was caught by the store’s manager concealing $65.31 in salami, sausage and various cheeses in her purse.
