More than 60 dog owners and their pooches attended Yappy Hour at Dooley’s Dog House in Kirkland on Feb. 3.
But aside from the mingling, appetizers/puppetizers, yapping and other fun, the event was also for a good cause.
Participants $10 suggested donations will go entirely to pay the vet bills for Scarlett, a rescued Husky mix. Byron Wilkes, an independent animal rescuer from Edmonds, told his story during the event of how he rescued Scarlett from a bad situation near Arlington, where her elderly owner didn’t have the capacity to feed her properly or recognize she needed emergency veterinary care for a cancerous tumor.
Scarlett is now recovering from surgery and will soon be place with a returning veteran and his family.
