Gary Richard Schaertl passed away on July 14, 2018 in Kirkland, Washington.

Dick was born on November 17, 1949 in Bend, Oregon to June and Richard Schaertl.

He received his PhD in Forest Biology from University of Maine. Dick worked in wildland firefighting, silviculture, forest management, finance, and tertiary education.

His civic endeavors included roles with Team Rubicon, Snohomish County Search & Rescue, Kirkland CERT, Civilian Police Academy of Kirkland.

Dick is survived by his loving wife, Christy; beloved mother, June; son, Josh (Archie) Schaertl; daughter, Lara Schaertl; step-children, Kristen (James) Hancock, Connor (Carin) Klein; five grandchildren (Christopher, Madison, Jon, Ada, and Dash). He is predeceased by his father, Richard and sister, Joan.

Dick’s life will be celebrated on Sunday, August 26, 11am at The Grotto, St. Edwards Park, Kenmore, Washington.
