To know Grace, was to love Grace. Always ready with a smile and a compliment to brighten even the darkest day for everyone she met — she was our “angel.”

Born to Peter and Annie Frazier of Braintree, MA on September 2, 1923, she was one of 17 children. She would later marry John (Jimmy) Barkshadt and raise their three children in Kirkland, WA — Susan Mastin of Issaquah, Ken Barkshadt of Sand Point, AK and Debbie Day of Bellingham, WA.

After Jimmy passed in 2004, Grace reluctantly moved from her home of 60+ years, to Highgate Assisted Living in Bellingham. Though it saddened her to leave behind so many wonderful loving neighbors, she soon settled into her new residence. The love she shared with residents and staff alike was a joy to witness but after 93 years of living and loving, our “angel” passed away peacefully in the presence of family on Wednesday evening, January 4, 2017.

Grace leaves behind her three children, eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, who all miss her dearly. A celebration of life will be planned for the spring.
