Janeen Ryseff, a lifelong resident of Kirkland, Washington, born at Harborview Hospital on Armistice Day, November 11, 1931 to Russell Arnold Wentz and Dorthea Lee Wentz, passed away Memorial Day, May 25 2020. Janeen, a breast cancer survivor for fifty-two years, is survived by her four children Alexander, Glen, Lisa and Mary, as well as six grand-children and one great-grand child.
Janeen was a member of the first graduating class of the new Lake Washington High School in 1950 and became a member of their Golden Grads in her later years. After two years of bookkeeping for KOMO 4 television, Janeen married Sidore Ryseff on September 8th, 1956. The couple was married for sixty years.
Janeen kept the books for Sidore’s company Master Cement Finishing, whilst raising four children. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and a PTA president for Central Elementary School in Kirkland for two years. Janeen was a thirty year member of the Children’s Orthopedic Guild that made baby doll clothing for Children’s Hospital of Seattle Charity Foundation. She owned and operated The Elegant John & Gourmet Kitchen, in downtown Kirkland for fifteen years.
During her retirement years, Janeen participated in the Bellevue YMCA Silver Sneakers exercising program, and took part in the YMCA’s knitting group, of which the proceeds from the sales helped a local women’s shelter. Janeen enjoyed genealogy and was significantly involved in the Kirkland Heritage Foundation.
A memorial service for Janeen will be held May 28, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Kirkland Cemetery, with a celebration of life to follow at the Kirkland Heritage Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her memory be made to any of the mentioned charities.
