Lynn Curtis Atwood
Lynn Curtis Atwood, longtime Kirkland resident passed away April 15 in Redmond, WA. He was born March 23, 1921 to Gene C. and Lucy Mae Atwood in Sparta, Wisconsin. Lynn was involved in music early in life with family members. His sisters Eileen, Mary and Shirley and brother Austin all sang and played instruments throughout their lives.In 1939 his family loaded belongings onto a trailer they pulled all the way to Maple Valley joining family members already living there. In those early months, Lynn milked cows for various dairies, which took him to Edmonds where he met future wife, Muriel Wamsley, at choir practice. They were married in October of 1941 and soon moved to Whidbey Island to raise turkeys. They sold that 40 acres and used the money for college at Western Washington University and Seattle Pacific University. Lynn began teaching in 1949 as a music teacher. He soon went to a regular classroom and spent 32 years teaching at Lakeview Elementary and later Thoreau Elementary where he retired in 1982. Lynn and Muriel Atwood were also longtime members of Rose Hill Presbyterian Church. Over the years Lynn was always involved in trombone quartets, vocal quartets and church choirs. He was a soloist at over 50 weddings and funerals. Lynn was preceded in death by his wife Muriel on December 19, 2009. He is survived by three children Bonnie (Gary Carlsen of Spokane), Patricia (Andy Anderson of Bremerton), Gary (Kristi Atwood of Kirkland) and nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Lynn served his wife and family for 89 years and often said “life would be pretty dull without laughter and music. ”A family graveside service is planned. E. Muriel Atwood
E. Muriel Atwood went home to be with the Lord on December 19, 2009. She was born in Leavenworth, WA on July 2, 1920 to Willard Marion and Elizabeth Mary Wamsley. She married her loving husband Lynn on October 4, 1941 sharing 68 wonderful years together. Muriel is survived by her three children Patti (husband Andy Anderson), Bonnie (husband Gary Carlsen) and Gary (wife Kristi), sisters Kathleen Womer and Shirley Hobbs, and brother Willard (wife Vi). She has nine grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Lynn and Muriel lived most of their lives in Kirkland where Lynn was an elementary school teacher. They were members of Rosehill Presbyterian Church for many years, giving many hours in service to care for the grounds. She worked for a few years, but spent most of her life being a loving mom and caring for her family. She loved to garden and spend time with family and friends at their getaway place at Lake Connor.
