Marit Josten Highland
Marit Josten Highland, 100, died on October 29, 2014 at home. She was born on February 9, 1914 in Juanita, Washington. She was the daughter of Syvert Josten and Susie Berg Josten.
The Jostens were pioneers in the Juanita area. She spent her early childhood on the family homestead north of Juanita Beach on Lake Washington. Her family moved to Kirkland in 1928, where she graduated from high school.
She worked as a secretary for Puget Sound Power and Light Company and Fisher Flouring Mills, where she met her husband, Frank “Pete” Highland. Together they operated Highland Feed Mills in Tacoma, Washington. They moved to Camano Island in 1972.
She leaves behind her sons, Jeffrey and Scott, daughter-in-law Kathy, grandson Dustin, his wife Erin and their twins Elsa Grace and Max Dustin, grandson Christopher, cousin Elaine Josten McKenna, one niece, three nephews, and special friends and neighbors—all of whom brought much joy to her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, her brother Webster Josten, her sister Lillian Kremer, and long-time companion Harold Klett.
Services will be held at Camano Lutheran Church on Sunday, November 9 at 2:00pm. Inurnment will be at Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Bellevue. Remembrances may be given to Camano Lutheran Church (850 Heichel Road, Camano Island, WA 98282).
