Patricia (Pat) (Meema) Shinstrom
Pat quietly passed away December 4, 2014 after a long battle with MDS (a form of blood cancer). She will be missed and fondly remembered by so many. Known to most as “Meema” she will always be remembered for having a smile on her face and a flower in her hair.
Pat was born June 14, 1931 in Seattle and grew up on Hunts Point. A graduate from the University of Washington, Pat was a member and also president of the Delta Gamma Sorority. It was there she started her love of football. An original Seahawks season ticket holder there were not many Seahawks or Husky games she didn’t attend. On November 6, 1954, she married her husband, Richard (Dick) Shinstrom, and they promptly moved to Kirkland. It was there that they raised three boys and where she proudly lived for her remaining 60+ years.
It was her love of the outdoors that started the family on many memorable outdoor and worldly adventures. A true champion of the Northwest, she loved to water and snow ski – even skiing on one water ski on her 82nd birthday! Meema, a nickname started by her eldest grandson, was a roller coaster nut, proudly taking the whole family on roller coaster adventures into her early 70’s. Meema liked to joke that her headstone should read “Her claim to fame was water skiing on the Amazon River and her greatest regret was not getting to fly with the Blue Angels.” Well, you’re flying with Angels now, Meema.
She is survived by her husband Richard (Dick) Shinstrom, and by her sons, Mark (Sue), Scott (Jan) & Steve Shinstrom (Patty). She is also survived by six grandchildren: Dan, Doug, Jackie, Kellie, Eric & Alex Shinstrom.
A celebration of her life will be held at Inglewood Golf & Country Club (6505 Inglewood Rd NE, Kenmore, WA 98028) on Friday January 16, 2015 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to Children’s Hospital, Delta Gamma Sorority Foundation or Goodwill Industries. To honor Meema at her celebration please wear your Seahawks or UW Huskies clothing.
