Ins and outs

It’s no laughing matter that our humor columnist Jeremy Greenberg has packed his bags and moved to sunny San Diego with his wife and kids.

But do not fret, he has left us some parting Greenberg wisdom. He writes:

Kirkland, you are and will always be my literary birthplace. I do love you. And as anyone who truly loves a place, I care enough to make it better. Here are a few final criticisms of the Northwest and the Eastide:

• You all drive terribly. Learn to merge or take the bus.

• Moss on roofs: clean it off or go live in the forest — it’s ugly.

• Salt the roads when it snows. I know you say sand’s better for the environment, but how will the environment look covered in body parts and bent fenders?

• Kurt Cobain is dead: Dear local youths, please stop dressing like him. You look stupid.

• Whoever voted against the Sonics: You’re morons. Last I heard, revenue was a good thing.

That being said, I will miss all the wonderful people, the beautiful parks, and the intelligent culture that is the Eastside.

He also invites the community to visit www.jeremygreenberg.com so you can stay connected. He will have a new blog that’s really funny starting soon. And, for those who either email (jeremy@jeremygreenberg.com) him with their email addresses, or sign up for his newsletter, he’ll be drawing names at random and sending them copies of his hilarious book “Relative Discomfort: The Family Survival Guide.”

Welcome, new sports writer

Our sports writer Adam McFadden, who has covered the Kirkland scene since 2007, has moved south to take a full-time position with one of our sister Reporter newspapers.

“I’ve enjoyed my time working with the coaches and athletes,” Adam said, “and I appreciate my time in Kirkland.”

We will miss his dedication.

Joel Willits is our new sports writer. I know him well.

I worked alongside Joel at the Bellevue Reporter and have seen his enthusiasm – and passion – for local sports.

Originally from Richland, Wash., the Eastern Washington University alumnus enjoys covering all the sports happenings within the community, as well as local athletes who have enjoyed success.

You can send him all sports happenings at jwillits@kirklandreporter.com, or contact him by calling 425-453-5045.

As always, we encourage coaches and parents to submit photos and information about your young athletes, so we can recognize their hard work in our community paper.
