(In regards to “Bridge over 405 could be renamed in honor of construction worker,” July 1) I would like to know how much money has been spent on the decision-making process to name this bridge already. The fact that money is being wasted on making this decision is terrible – in my opinon if the bridge has to have a name then the Kollin Nielson Bridge is a better name than any other that could be dedicated to it. The fact that a local person had to have his life tragically taken away from him, his family and friends is more than enough reason to afix his name to the structure. This should have been an easy decision to make, and should not have taken and wasted tax payer money.
Okay, so the name will be there for millions of people to see – is that a bad thing? If it forces anybody now or even years down the line to ask who Kollin was and why the bridge is named after him it will be a good thing. There should be processes that allow for more than just a random naming process of public structures, but should it be something that is so long and drawn out? There is always someone who will not agree with a decision, that is the way of the world, but to waste money on making that decision is foolish.
