Sen. Patty Murray comments on Supreme Court decision

Today’s Supreme Court ruling is an important step forward for families in Washington state and across the country, because it affirms what Congress intended when we fought to get the Affordable Care Act passed—that everyone should be able to get affordable health care coverage, no matter what state they live in.

U.S. Senator Patty Murray offered this statement after the U.S. Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision in King v. Burwell, upholding the Affordable Care Act:

“Today’s Supreme Court ruling is an important step forward for families in Washington state and across the country, because it affirms what Congress intended when we fought to get the Affordable Care Act passed—that everyone should be able to get affordable health care coverage, no matter what state they live in.

“But there is a lot more we need to do to make sure our health care system works for families and puts their needs first. I’m going to be fighting for policies that build on the progress made so far by offering families more affordability, expandingcoverage, and improving quality of care.

“I hope that with today’s decision, those who have insisted on putting politics first when it comes to health care will finally put partisanship aside and work with Democrats to move our health care system forward, not backward, for the families we serve.”
