As summer approaches, Lake Washington High school is doing all in it’s power to remind teens of the dangers of distracted driving.

The school week of May 16-20 will be dedicated to raising awareness and providing students with the skills they need to prevent car crashes, in particular car crashes due to distracted or impaired driving.

Ten percent of all drivers 15 to 19 years old involved in fatal crashes were reported as distracted at the time of the crashes. This age group has the largest proportion of drivers who were distracted at the time of the crashes. (NHTSA). Thus, in knowing these facts and the risks that the student body faces daily, the school’s ASB partnered with an organization YES (Youth Eastside Services) to put on a simulation on May 20 that would serve as a mock DUI to illustrate first hand the reality of and severity of driving while distracted and/or under the influence.
