Since when does a detour route place you in the thick of the event instead of around it? Answer: a marathon through Kirkland.
Last Sunday I was directed to an intersection that required crossing the marathon route. Rather than let one-to-two cars through the intersection when there was a break in the runners, the Redmond officers told me it was only safe to wait for breaks that would accommodate four or more cars. I literally waited for more than 30 minutes at that intersection.
A warning of “expect up to 40-min delay” before getting to a place of no return would be a friendly gesture for those with a time commitment. Just sayin…
