Kirkland’s own YMCA KTUB (Kirkland Teen Union Building) is in the middle of their 2016 Annual Campaign to raise money to support teen programs at the center. Through KTUB, the YMCA strives to meet and exceed the social and cultural needs of young people 13-19, while offering resources that empower them to become active, caring and responsible community members. As a recreation, resource and arts center, this unique facility gives teens a positive, supportive environment to develop skills, connect with their peers and make a difference locally. With money raised during this campaign, KTUB is able to provide many free programs and others at minimum charge for local teens.
This year KTUB’s fundraising goal is $30,000. To date, $24,800 has been raised from community donations and fundraising events done by KTUB themselves. Some of the programs this money will support in the coming year are the annual Youth Institute program, expanding homeless youth resources such as access to washers and dryers, daily after school nutrition, art supplies, music equipment and general facility maintenance.
As a fundraiser and fun evening, KTUB will be sponsoring a talent show on March 11 from 6-8 p.m. Kirkland residents can show their support of this wonderful program while enjoying a main stage show featuring teen acts, dinner and a bake sale.
All proceeds benefit the 2016 Y Annual Campaign which makes programs like these possible. Ninty-eight cents of every dollar go directly to KTUB programs.
As a way to say Thank You to their community for their support, KTUB will be hosting a BBQ open to everyone on March 18 from 6-7 p.m. The staff and participants invite you to a dinner on them. There will be BBQ’ing, playing games and of course, lots of music… and again all proceeds raised will go toward their $30,000 goal.
The YMCA KTUB has made a huge impact in our community by giving teens a place to go, where they feel safe, can express themselves, make friends and learn life skills that will benefit them in their adult lives. We invite you to come on out and show your support, while having a great time and seeing these teens in action.
