Brackets released for 3A softball state tournament

Both Kirkland high school softball teams are set to play high-profile opponents in the first round of the Class 3A state tournament, held at Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.

Both Kirkland high school softball teams are set to play high-profile opponents in the first round of the Class 3A state tournament, held at Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association released first-round matchups on Tuesday morning.

Lake Washington is scheduled to play Prairie at 9 a.m. on May 27. Prairie (13-9) beat Lake Washington 6-2 in the first round of the state tournament last season.

Juanita High is scheduled to kick off the tournament against Kelso (16-8) at noon on May 27. Kelso had to fight its way into the state tournament after a second-round loss to Enumclaw.

Kelso knocked Lake Washington out of the state tournament last season, and was immediately bounced by Prairie.

Quarterfinals for this season’s state tournament are scheduled for 4 p.m. on May 27. Semifinals are scheduled for 9 a.m. the next day, with the championship game set for 1:30 p.m. on May 28.
