On June 21, The Central Park Tennis Club membership overwhelmingly approved the project that may give the business bragging rights as the largest member-owned hard court indoor tennis club in the country.

This will bring the club’s total court availability to 12 indoor and six outdoor courts. The expansion allows them to increase the voting members from 435 to 500, with 65 new memberships becoming available. The club is already home to 170 Kirkland residents, 184 Bellevue residents and 59 Redmond residents.

When Central Park opened its doors in 1972, the members at that time had a vision to be the best tennis club on the Eastside. Accomplishing that goal and continuing to move forward with that vision, the membership will begin construction in July with the intent of opening the] new building January 1, 2012, just in time to celebrate the club’s 40th birthday.

The club will also host the Washington State Junior Champs tournament July 15-17. It will also be a site for the MXD Event hosted by Bellevue Club, July 29-30, which benefits First Place School. All of these events are open to the public.
