The top rated KingCo team fell twice last week, but managed to hold on to the top spot in KingCo. The Juanita girls basketball team lost to Mount Si and Mercer Island for the Rebels first two conference losses of the year.
During the 52-40 loss to Mount Si, the Rebels were down 37-20 going into the half and could never dig out of the hole.
Kate Crydermann had 16 points in the game, while Mount Si’s Hailey Eddings and Kassidy Maddux each scored 13 points for the Wildcats. Bre Carter had eight for the Rebels, while teammate Mikayla Jones put up five.
The team followed the loss with another, this time to Mercer Island 61-40. Mercer Island controlled the game from the beginning and catapulted the lead in the second half with an 18 point third quarter, while holding the Rebels to eight points.
Jones and Crydermann each had 11 points, while Taylor Paddock added eight for the Lady Rebels, followed by six from Tayler Lloyd and two apiece from Bre Carter and Molly Grager.
Lake Washington sweeps past Sammamish, falls to Bellevue
Nearing the end of the regular season the Lake Washington girls basketball team swept past Sammamish, before losing a close game to Bellevue last week.
Against the Totems last Wednesday, Lake Washington won 73-42. The Kangs dominated from the start, with a 26 point first quarter and never looked back.
Melissa Wilson put up 18 points during the game, while Hunter Hopkins had 16 points and Peyton Wozeniak had 10 points. Jessica Washington scored seven points for Lake Washington, followed by Sara Wilson’s six and Whitney Dunlap’s five. Both Cassive Lively and Nikki Schmidt had four points and Eleanor Lyon had two, while Kalena Dierickx scored one point.
Two days later the team traveled to face Bellevue, losing 36-33 in a close battle. Lake Washington had a 16-14 lead at the half but Bellevue crept up and took the win with two 11 point quarters in the second half.
Hopkins had the team high of 13 points, while Lively put in six, Wozeniak had five. Dunlap and Melissa Wilson scored four points and Washington added one to the mix.
