After splitting their opponents last week, the Juanita girls soccer team took another step toward the postseason, sitting squarely in the No. 2 spot in KingCo.

After splitting their opponents last week, the Juanita girls soccer team took another step toward the postseason, sitting squarely in the No. 2 spot in KingCo. The Rebels, who are 8-3-1 in league and 9-4-1 overall, beat Mount Si last Tuesday and fell to league leader Liberty last Thursday in overtime.

On Oct. 19 the team beat the Wildcats 2-1 in a home contest. Tori Lee scored an unassisted goal with 70 minutes on the clock, while Kylie Hassel added her own unassisted goal eight minutes later. Mount Si scored its only goal of the night when Leslie Stevens and Hailey Conway connected in the 79 minute for a goal.

Two nights later the Rebels traveled to Liberty for a league showdown, losing 3-2.

Liberty scored twice early on before taking the game winner in overtime. Goals for the Patriots were scored by Whitney Cain, Kimi Fry, assisted by Cassidy Nangle and Kianna Hafferty, assisted by Fry. Juanita’s Avery Linn scored an unassisted goal in the 39 minute, followed by a Karissa Radke, Lee combo in the 79 minute.

Juanita played the final games of the regular season this week, traveling to Interlake on Tuesday and Lake Washington on Thursday, both after Reporter deadline.

A match up against the No. 4 Metro team next Saturday, Nov. 6 will determine if the team earns a spot into the state tournament.

Lake Washington falls in 0-2 week

In a tough week for the Lake Washington girls soccer team, the Lady Kangs lost to the league leader Liberty before falling to Bellevue in the same week.

Tuesday, Oct. 19 the Kangs hosted Liberty, losing 3-2. Liberty struck first with an unassisted goal from Kianna Hafferty just 10 minutes into the game. But Lake Washington battled back, scoring off a Cassie Lively, Tori Varyu and Jordan Masters combination in the 35 minute to tie the game. After the half Whitney Cain scored a goal for Liberty to lead the game 2-1, but Emma Holm evened things out with a penalty kick midway through the second half. Despite their best efforts Kailiana Johnson, assisted by Hafferty sealed the win for the Patriots in the 79 minute.

That Thursday, at Bellevue the Kangs lost 2-0 to the Wolverines.

Gracie Odengard, assisted by Alli Cahill socred the first goal in the 60 minute after a long defensive battle by the Kangs. The last goal was scored five minutes later by Madeline Donoguhe and Gemma Barker.

Holm continues to lead the league in the goals with 11 this season, and two assists. The Kangs are 4-8 in league and 4-10 overall this season. They played Sammamish on Tuesday evening in the final game of the regular season.
