Juanita girls get blown out at Mercer Island

The Juanita High School girls basketball team saw first hand why Mercer Island is undefeated in league play, losing 82-59 following an Islander scoring barrage during the second half.

The game began with Mercer Island out in front, but the Rebels pulled the game back to within two possessions by half time behind the efforts of the Baba twins, Michelle and Kimberly.

Mercer Island used big shots from beyond the arch to rock Juanita’s defense for 49 second-half points.

Michelle Baba scored 20 and her sister Kimberly Baba put up 11 points.

The loss drops Juanita into a tie with Bellevue at 6-2 in league play. The Rebels will try to get back on track Friday as they host the Wolverines for sole possession of second place behind the Islanders.
