The Juanita girls basketball team outlasted Holy Names on Saturday afternoon, earning another game in the district tournament.

The Juanita girls basketball team outlasted Holy Names on Saturday afternoon, earning another game in the district tournament.

The Lady Rebels beat Holy Names 51-49 at home, to advance to the second round of the tournament this week.

The Cougars were up 8-6 at the end of the first quarter, but Juanita hit 10 points in the second to hold a 16-13 lead at halftime. After the break, Holy Names surged, hitting 19 points, with Juanita scoring 16 in the third quarter. But in the final minutes Juanita retook the game, with 19 points to earn the win.

Senior Kate Cryderman had 22 points during the match, with 13 coming from Mikayla Jones. Another nine were courtesy of Bre Carter, while Molly Grager scored four and Winnie Levitt added three.

The team moves into the second round of the team to face Metro’s No. 1 team Franklin. The Rebels will play against Franklin on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Ingraham High School. A win over Franklin would move the Rebels into the semi-finals, which will be placed on Thursday, Feb. 16 at 8:15 p.m. If the Rebels beat Franklin, they will play the winner of the Liberty vs. Seattle Prep game in the semi-finals. A loss to Franklin, and the Rebels head to the consolation bracket, where they would play the loser of the Seattle Prep vs. Liberty match on Friday, Feb. 17 at 8:15 p.m. at Bellevue College.

The top five teams in districts move forward to the regional round of the state tournament, which begins on Feb. 25.
