The Juanita volleyball team earned a huge win on Wednesday, Oct. 5, beating the previously undefeated Mercer Island in five games.
The Rebels, who traveled to Mercer Island, took game one with a 25-12 score, before losing games two and three 25-21 and 25-23. But the Rebels took game four, 25-18 to force a fifth game. Juanita handily grabbed the 15-8 win over the Islanders, giving the Islanders their first league loss this year.
Juanita junior Jade Finau posted 45 assists, while Dana Michels made 27 kills, had two blocks and 21 digs. Teammate Theresa Laufasa had 13 kills, 16 digs and three aces. Kelsey Camilleri-Espinoza had 15 digs and five aces for the team, while Natasha Hatch posted 13 digs.
Monday evening, the Rebels beat Bellevue in three games. The Rebels won the first game 25-16, followed by 25-13 and 25-16 matches.
The Lake Washington volleyball team lost a close KingCo match on Wednesday, Oct. 5 to Interlake.
The Kangs, hosted the Saints, played five games, losing 3-2.
Lake Washington took the first game with a 25-16 final score, and the second at 25-20, before Interlake won games three and four (25-18, 25-16) to force a fifth game. The teams battled it out, but the Saints stole the win with a 16-14 final score.
During the games, Jess Lund had 11 kills, Maddie Lind also posted 11 kills, teammate Maddie Stone added 17 assists, while Maddy Warnick had 15 assists. Shelby Farrell had eight kills, while Eleanor Lyon posted six kills and six aces.
Monday evening the Kangs traveled to Mount Si. The Wildcats won in four games, with Lake Washington taking game one 25-21. Mount Si then won the final three games 25-12, 25-21 and 25-13 to win the series.
The Kangs will play Bellevue next Monday, Oct. 17 and Sammamish on Oct. 19 with the final game of the regular season on Monday, Oct. 24 against Juanita.
