Lake Washington High freshman Katie Cross snapped a school record in the 100-yard backstroke at the Class 3A swimming championships on Nov. 12 in Federal Way.
Cross finished fifth in the event in 58.06 seconds in the state finals at the King County Aquatics Center, breaking the record of 59.25 seconds set last fall by Jayna VanStone.
Cross also qualified for state in the 100 freestyle, but disqualified in the event.
The Juanita 400 freestyle relay team — Tova Andersson, Samantha Haong, Maja Evans and Victoria Truswell — made the podium with an eighth-place finish in 3:42.96.
The same four girls finished ninth in the 200 freestyle relay, winning the B final in 1:42.17.
Truswell finished 10th in the 100 butterfly, knocking a second off her time from prelims, and finished 12th in the 100 breaststroke.
Andersson finished 16th overall in the 200 free.
Wing Yun Au finished 16th in the 200 individual medley and ninth in the 100 breaststroke.
Lake Washington freshman Audrey Arnold missed the finals in the 1-meter dive, finishing 17th with 202.4 points.
Lakeside won the Class 3A team trophy with 244 points, beating Bellevue with 243 points. Juanita finished 13th with 63 points and Lake Washington finished 28th with 14 points.
Cross was voted to the 2A/3A all-KingCo first-team. Wing Yun Au made the second team, and Arnold and Truswell made the all-conference honorable mention list.
