The Juanita Rebels narrowly won their sixth game this season Friday night, beating Mount Si 18-17.
The Rebels, now 6-1 overall, traveled to the Wildcats for a KingCo match. Coming off a loss to Bellevue last week, Mount Si kept the Rebels quiet, holding the team scoreless until the third quarter.
The Wildcats jumped to an early 3-0 lead at the end of the first, followed by a touchdown in the second quarter. They led 10-0 going into the half, the largest lead another team has held over the Rebels this season going into the second half.
Juanita finally found their stride in the third, scoring six points, before Mount Si added another touchdown of their own to the board. It was a 17-6 game going into the final quarter.
But Juanita wasn’t going to lose back to back Friday’s adding 12 points in the fourth to steal the win.
Lake Washington beat Interlake 34-14
The Lake Washington Kangs picked up their second conference win Friday night, beating the Interlake Saints 34-14.
But it was Interlake who first posted points on the board, thanks to a 98-yard kickoff return run by Scotty Gehlhausen in the opening moments of the game.
But the Kangs responded quickly with touchdown passes from Spencer Jackson to Max Simpkins and Robert Reyes for a 14-7 lead at the endo of the first.
Lake Washington’s Alex Donnelly scored the only touchdown of the second quarter, but the kick was blocked for a 20-7 game going into the half.
Interlake held off Lake Washington through the third, going 12 minutes with no scoring runs or passes.
But both sides found strength in the waning minutes of the game to add more points to the board.
The Kangs Anthony Frakes caught a 15-pass from Jackson to strike first, while Gavin Santjer-Goetz did the same off another 15-yard pass from Jackson to give the Kangs 14 points in the quarter. But Interlake wasn’t quite finished as Jordan Todd completed a 62-yard touchdown run late in the game.
The Kangs will travel to Juanita next Friday night, Oct. 22 for the Rebels homecoming game which begins at 7 p.m.
