The Juanita High School track and field teams competed in a quad meet at Liberty High School Thursday and came away with two wins for the boys, while the girls team split.

“It was a miserable night for track and field,” said Juanita head coach Neil Kells. “A constant downpour of rain did not make it the most enjoyable evening, but the kids held their heads up and performed to the best of their ability.”

The boys made the best of the meet, defeating Sammamish 113-22 and Liberty 74-62.

Overall the boys team took eight first-place finishes, but it was their depth that held off Liberty.

Kendrick Murphy won the 400 meters (52.9 seconds), while Santos Zaid won the 800 meters (2:02.8). The run for Zaid was a personal best by six seconds.

Alex Wallin took first in the 110-meter hurdles (15.5) and the 300-meter hurdles (40.5).

“Vincent Ly is giving Alex Wallin, our No. 1 hurdler, a run for his money in the 110-meter hurdles,” said Kells. “Alex had to out lean him at the finish line to win and they are sitting one and two in KingCo.”

Ly finished in a time of 15.6 seconds.

Re’Jon Booker, Ly, Austin Chen and Besser Rios teamed up for the 400-meter relay winning with a time of 45.4 seconds. Wallin, Zaid, Travis Marshall and Murphy won the 1,600-meter relay (3:31.6).

“Liberty has the fastest time in the league (in the 1,600-meter relay) and they were hoping to have a race against them, but Liberty didn’t have their No. 1 team perform,” said Kells. “A win is a win and that team improved by six seconds.”

Wallin took first in the triple jump with a distance of 41-feet, 1.5-inches.

Matt Nilsson took first in the shot put with a distance of 41-feet, 7-inches.

Girls split

The Rebel girls split at Liberty behind seven first-place finishes. Mikayla Jones took first in the 100-meters

Molly Grager took first in the triple jump (33-feet, 9-inches) and high jump (5-feet, 2-inches). Alanna Coker won the long jump (17-feet, 1.5-inches), while Kate Cryderman took first in the shot put (35-feet) and discus (107-feet, 7-inches).

Juanita won the 800-meter relay as Kaila Bass, Regi Lammers, Kathryn Wuchter and Jones teamed up to finishes with a time of 1:49.0.

Lammers nearly won the 400-meters with a time of 1:02.9, on-tenth of a second behind the Mount Si winner.

“She continues to improve every week and she came through with a gritty performance in the 400 only to get caught at the line, but improved her time,” said Kells.
