The Juanita High School fastpitch softball team finished off their season with a 2-2 record during the state tournament held in Lacey, Wash. on May 30-31.

The Rebels began the tournament with a big 5-2 victory against Columbia River on Friday during the first round. Juanita scored all five of its runs during the first inning, including a Clare Sovacool grand slam home run.

The Rebel defense held the lead through the fifth inning. Columbia River’s bats finally woke up during the sixth inning, scoring two runs. But it was too late, as the Juanita players finished off the game to advance to the second round. Madi Hedlund finished the contest 2-for-2 at the plate.

The Rebels drew Glacier Peak during the second round and lost by the same score they had won, 5-2.

Juanita again scored early, posting both of its runs during the top of the second inning behind a two-run home run off the bat of Aimee Richardson. But Peak tied the game during the bottom of the inning and then scored a run during the fourth and two more during the fifth inning.

The Rebels won one more game, defeating Mountain View, 4-1, to advance to Saturday’s game schedule. Juanita starting pitcher Milly Kawabata held Mountain View to just one run during the sixth inning, as the Rebel offense was led by Hedlund, Richardson and Morgan Figeuroa, who all had multiple hits.

Juanita’s season came to an end with a 7-4 loss to University High School. The Rebels trailed 5-4 during the fourth inning but could never get any closer.
