The Juanita High School girls basketball team won the cross Kirkland rivalry game against Lake Washington Wednesday night, 71-57.
The Rebels and Kangs traded baskets during the first eight minutes of play with Lake Washington holding just a two-point lead heading into the second quarter. But it was that second quarter that separated the teams on the scoreboard.
Juanita ran the court on offense to score 27 points, while holding the Kangs to 16. The Rebels would hold on to defeat Lake Washington during the second half, only outscoring the Kangs by five points.
Kang Sydney Shepard led all scorers with 29 points during the game and teammate Johnna Jahnke put in 15. But it was Juanita’s balanced scoring that was the defining factor during the game, as seven players scored for the team. Shalexxus Aaron finished with 19 points, while Jaissa Nunn (14), Tea Adams (13) and Sydney Gildersleevve (13) all finished in double figures in scoring.
