The excitement for a league meet usually comes during the final leg of a championship final. And while the Lake Washington and Juanita High School boys swim teams swam well during the finals of the KingCo 4A/3A/2A championship meet, it was the prelims on Friday that were record breaking at the University of Washington.

The team of Elijah Singstad, Sasha Oelsner, Nick Reeves and Austin Lashley combined to break a 19-year-old school record in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The team finished the event in a time of 1-minute, 32.29-seconds to qualify for the finals and put their names in the Kang record book. The team broke the previous record by .8 seconds.

During the finals the 200-yard freestyle relay the team finished fourth overall with a time of 1:33.35.

Juanita’s team of Mikal Boyer, Charlie Kullman, Nicholas Topinka and George Oros finished 12th (1:36.67) during the same event.

Lashley also swam well in individual competition, finishing third in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.31 seconds. He also finished fourth overall in the 50-yard freestyle (22.67). Singstad finished 10th overall in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.34.

Reeves finished ninth during the 100-yard breaststroke final with a time of 1:04.44.

Keith Cole finished 10th overall for Lake Washington in diving with a score of 279.85, while the Lake Washington team of Teddy Crane, Elijah Singstad, Kris Singstad and Reeves finished 10th in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:36.89).

The team of Kris Singstad, Oelsner, Lashley and Connor Gerth finished 11th over all in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:47.16.

Juanita swimmer George Oros finished eighth in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:54.68.

Many of the swimmers will move on to compete at the district meet in Anacortes this weekend.
