The Lake Washington High School wrestling team got a good start to the post season Saturday by finishing second at the 4A KingCo tournament held at Juanita High School. But the heartbreak of the Kangs (191) finishing two points behind Woodinville (193) for first place was tough to take. The next closest team was Inglemoor with 172 points.
Overall, Lake Washington finished with four-out-of-five wrestlers who reached the finals winning a title.
The championship rounds started early for the Kangs as Joel Navas defeated Jacob Sands of Roosevelt 9-2 for the 119 pound 4A KingCo tournament title. At 140 pounds, the Kangs’ Dylan Ullery wrestled the quickest match of any finals contest, pinning Brandon Pearson of Issaquah in just 50 seconds.
The Kangs displayed some dominants during back-to-back finals matches. First, Yaroslav Petrechko of Lake Washington defeated Jake Lowe of Inglemoor by injury default at 171 pounds. Then, Kang teammate Inrahim Khilfeh earned a pin fall during the finals of the 189-pound tournament. The Lake Washington student earned the fall against Joe Glass of Redmond four seconds before the end of the second round to take the 4A KingCo tournament title.
Zach Chrysanthou reached the finals of the 145-pound tournament for Lake Washington, but a grueling match against Shawn Weisenburgh of Newport resulted in a tough 9-7 loss.
Lake Washington as a team will move on to districts this weekend.
