The Lake Washington football team earned its first victory of the season, 25-23, against Roosevelt Friday at Memorial Stadium in Seattle.
The Kangs built a 13-point lead on the back of running back Alex Donnelly and their offensive line. The two scoring plays showed the running back’s versatility. Donnelly scampered 60 yards on the team’s first score of the game and then punched it in from one-yard out.
The Roughriders cut that lead to six points, as they scored on a long 33-yard pass play just before the end of the first quarter. A 20-yard field goal cut the Kangs’ lead to 13-10 before half time.
But the Kangs showed resilience with two more big runs to extend their lead. Lake Washington running back Tarik Camp ran the ball 54 yards to the end zone and Max Simpkins took the ball 34 yards for the team’s final score of the game.
The Roughriders would make a small push to cut the lead down but eventually run out of steam.
The Kangs will host Ballard at 7 p.m. Friday at Mac Stadium.
