The Lake Washington High School boys soccer team lost to Mercer Island Friday night, 1-0, during its regular-season opener.

Both teams had strong defense as they played to a stalemate during the first half and nearly throughout the second half. But Mercer Island scored the only goal of the game during the 76th minute of play. Lake Washington was unable to break through on offense during the final four minutes of play.

The Kangs next face Bellevue High School at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at home.
