The Lake Washington High School baseball team overcame a first-inning deficit to defeat crosstown rival Juanita, 9-1, on Friday in Kirkland.
Juanita got on the board during the top of the first on an RBI from JD Worchester off starting pitcher Connor Johnson. But Johnson settled in on the mound and finished the game with five innings, eight strike outs and four walks, while giving up four hits and the one run. Johnson earned the win with the performance, as Ethan Liggett picked up a two-inning save.
Offensively, Lake Washington was led by Kyle DePartee, who had an 3 RBI double, and Paul Franco, who had a 2 RBI double. Johnson, Kevin Nakahara and Parker Wikel also collected an RBI during the contest.
Lake Washington will play again at 4:30 p.m. today at Liberty High School in Renton, while Juanita will host Bellevue at 7 p.m. tonight at Lee Johnson Field.
