Both the Juanita and Lake Washington High School softball teams advanced to the second round of districts on Wednesday but in very different ways.
The Rebels crushed Nathan Hale 17-1 in a five inning mercy-rule victory, while the Kangs won a pitching duel 1-0 against Blanchet at Lower Woodland Park in Seattle.
Juanita only failed to score against Nathan Hale during the first inning but then blistered the ball for 19 hits during its next three at-bats.
The Rebels scored 10 runs during the second inning, five during the third and two during the fourth, as Nathan Hale imploded with seven fielding errors.
Juanita players Dani Faist, Abbey Oswald and Lindsey Ulbrickson each collected two RBI during the contest. Faits and Oswald went 3-for-4 with two runs scored each.
But it was a nail biter for the Kangs, who got a walk-off home run off the bat of Taylor Ferleman during the bottom of the eighth inning to beat Blachet.
The Kangs only managed six hits during the eight innings, but starting pitcher Audrey Sundene kept Lake Washington in the game, allowing just four hits, collecting nine strikeouts and walking just one as she staying in the pitching circle for all eight innings.
Laura Chopp finished the game going 2-for-2 at the plate for the Kangs.
Both teams were scheduled to play at Lower Woodland Park on Thursday during the second round of districts.
