Betsy Kingma and Maddey Pflaumer combined for 51 points as NCAA Division II, Seattle Pacific defeated Northwest University (NU), 79-58, in an exhibition game for the NU women on Friday. Kingma scored all of her 24 points in the first half as she hit 8 of 10 three point attempts for a blistering 80-percent shooting from beyond the arc.
NU stayed close in the first half as Victoria Makin’s short jumper nine minutes into the game put NU into a brief, 18-16 lead. Pflaumer then scored in the paint for the Falcons to tie the score at 18-18 sparking a 5-0 SPU run which would give them a 21-18 lead at the 10:18 mark. Kingma would then heat up and hit six three-pointers over the next nine minutes to help lift the Falcons to a 45-28 lead at the half including two straight in the final 32 seconds.
With 9:43 left in the second half, SPU would lead 67-38, but NU would go on a 12-2 run capped off by a Chanara Greene jumper to make it 69-50 with 6:16 remaining. Jordan Asher would hit her only trey with 2:22 to go to make it a 16 point game, 73-57, but Jordan McPhee would seal the seventh win for the Falcons with her three-pointer with 10 seconds left in the game.
Chanara Greene led all NU with 15 points and seven rebounds while Kristen Frey added 10 points on four-for-five shooting for the game. Charmaine Bradford, Jordan Asher and Paige Burson each scored seven for the Eagles in the exhibition which will not count against their season record. The Eagles shot 39 percent for the game and lost the rebounding battle 38-33.
For Seattle Pacific (7-1), Maddey Pflaumer scored 27 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Kingma added her 24 points and Jordan McPhee dropped in 10 points for the Falcons who hit 53 percent of their shots. SPU also scored on 10 of 21 three-point attempts for 48 percent shooting from beyond the arc.
Northwest U will resume play this weekend when they resume Cascade Conference at home when they host Northwest Christian and Corban University on Friday and Saturday.
