A look at how Kirkland basketball teams are doing before heading into Winter break.
Lake Washington Boys
Things couldn’t have started much better for the Kangs this season. With three wins to open the season, Lake Washington already passed it’s season total for wins from last season.
Wins over West Seattle, Woodinville and Ballard are solid, especially the Woodinville game. The Falcons play well on defense and have allowed an average of 47.75 points this season, the Kangs scored 61.
Lake Washington lost its first game at Issaquah 61-57 on Dec. 16, but the Eagles have a good team and that loss is nothing to be ashamed about.
Spencer Wozeniak is leading the team in scoring (17.7 points per game) and steals (2.7 per game). Greyson Blue is averaging 15.0 points per game and leading the Kangs in rebounding (7.7 per game) and blocks (2.7 per game).
Lake Washington Girls
The girls team has started well at 2-1 overall and 1-1 in league play. The Kangs opened with a 59-33, non-leauge win over Highline on Dec. 2.
Lake Washington fell to Woodinville, 58-42 in it’s league opener, but bounced back for a 37-34 win against Ballard on Dec. 12.
Kate Rasmussen, Olivia Lewis and Colleen Walsh give the Kangs a balanced attack. All three average at least 8.5 points per game.
Rasmussen is also averaging 5.3 rebounds and 4.0 steals per game. Walsh is leading the team in rebounds, at 7.3 per game. Sammy Brender is leading the team with 43 steals per game.
Juanita Girls
The Rebels have settled into the season well. Juanita beat Bishop Blanchet in the opener, then lost three in a row during a tough stretch of games (Inglemoor, Glacier Peak and Redmond are a combined 9-3).
Juanita got healthy against Sammamish with a 73-17 win Dec. 10. The Rebels were up 23-2 i the first quarter and tallied 25 steals in the game.
Juanita lost to Mercer Island 66-56 Dec. 12 and stands at 2-4 overall, 1-1 in league play.

Paddock, Marshall, Close, Michelle Baba and Kimberly Baba all have 15 or more steals on the season already.
Kimberly Baba is leading the team in assists, with 3.8. Paddock leads in rebounding, at 6.5 per game.
Juanita Boys
The season has been a struggle so far for the Rebels, with a number of close losses. Juanita is 1-6 overall and 1-2 league play heading into the break.
The win was a 65-55 toppling of Sammamish on Dec. 9. The six losses have come to teams with a combined 16-10 record, so the competition has been stiff.
The Rebels have five players averaging between 5.5 and 9.0 points, with Jesse Zachery leading the way at 8.7 points per game.
Dahrius Mills leads the team in steals (2.4 per game) and assists (1.6).
