Kirkland defeats Canada, 3-2, in Junior League Softball World Series opener

WA District 9 (Kirkland American/Kirkland National) defeated Canada (Victoria, BC), 3-2, in today’s Junior League Softball World Series action at Everest Park.

Pitcher Ruby Olmstead earned the win (Antonia Norman also pitched four innings) and Kaia Bradford, Kaci Gordon, Lilly Bean and Maddy Miller had one hit each. Gordon hit a bases-loaded double in the top of the fifth inning to put Kirkland up 3-2. In the bottom of the seventh inning, center fielder Amy Chen fired a throw to catcher Anna Fridell to nab a Canadian runner at home to end the game.

The locals will next take on Asia-Pacific (Tanauan City, Philippines) at 10:45 a.m. on Monday in pool play.
